The sun finally shone here – and just in time for our friend Emmy’s 16th birthday party.  We had a wonderful supper out on the deck and delicious cupcakes for dessert!  Happy Birthday, Emmy!!

Speaking of landfill saves…

May 31st, 2010

I’ve had my eye on the Anthropolie telephones for a while now.  The blue one is on half-price, so it was time to snap it up!  I think I’m in love – and it’s not even pink!  What is really cool about them is that they are phones from the 50s and 60s that have been restored and repainted in retro colours (orange, yellow, and green are also available).  Yes, you’re tied to a cord, but I like at least one phone in the house to be where I can find it!

Sunglasses saved from landfill!

May 30th, 2010

Last spring we found the most fun vintage eyeglasses store in Florence, Italy.  Shea had a hard time choosing a pair of sunglasses; she liked so many – and that’s saying something!  (She’s a little on the picky side…)  Well, we weren’t home long and her dear Charlotte decided to make a snack of them.  The frames were virtually undamaged, but one of the lenses was broken.  It’s been a year and she was still looking for a replacement pair.  (Did I mention she’s kind of picky?)  It finally occurred to me a couple of weeks ago that perhaps the lenses could be replaced.  What took me so long?  They turned out great and now they’re UV protected.  We surprised Shea with them today (early birthday present) and she was pretty thrilled.

Don’t worry – she still loves Charlotte!

As of ten minutes ago, I finished stitching May’s redwork pattern.  Here’s a look.  I need to make a good copy of the pattern, and I just noticed I forgot a couple of French knots…I should have these posted on my website sometime tomorrow evening.

Greenhouse Fun

May 24th, 2010

My thumb is definitely not green, so I’m surprised that I actually had some fun at the greenhouse today.  No school today (Victoria Day) so Martha, my mom and I went to the greenhouse to replant our hanging pots.  Martha was new at planting and I’m not good at planting – but luckily Grandma has a green thumb and my friend, Penny, was there to lend a hand too.

They will look much bigger, better, and filled out when they’ve had a chance to grow a bit – I hope!  But here’s one of mine:

And this one I’m plant-sitting for my mom until she returns from holiday in a week.  Hopefully I won’t kill it!!
